What’s that in the Sky? – July August 2008 02, 07, 2008

For all you night owls-
Volatile Mars and cautious Saturn are going to unite in heavens this July. As you can imagine it’s an uncomfortable alliance. Have a look to the west just after sunset and before 8pm. Reddish Mars will be easily visible and creamy Saturn will be just above it. Turn around and look to the east to see brilliant Jupiter who will slowly rise higher and higher through the evening. Now look overhead and see the glorious long sweeping tail of the scorpion. Look for the elegant curving sting at the end of its tail. Late in August some of you will be lucky enough to see Venus emerging from the glare of the sun just after sunset. She has been invisible since early March while travelling close to the Sun. In mythology this re-emergence sees her come back from the underworld and she takes her place as the wise, experienced and protective Evening Star.
For all you early birds-
For you very, very, early risers you will see Jupiter slowly set in the west. But as you can easily see Jupiter in the evening, I suggest you stay tucked warm up in bed. Next season I will try and organise a brilliant show for those that have to be up and about!

News From The Planets – July August 2008 02, 07, 2008
Posted by Kerry in Uncategorized.add a comment
Tuesday 2nd July
Mars enters Virgo
This heralds a time of energy being applied to the analytical and technical aspects of life. Our attention to detail will be second to none, but watch the urge to be extra critical and demanding of our own and others work ethics.
Wednesday 3rd July
New Moon in Cancer.
The Moon comes to its natural home in Cancer and indicates our preference for the home and the company of family. This is a special time to “seed” any intentions we have, especially ones involving our beloved and any young people around us.
Friday 11th July
Mercury enters Cancer, and Mars conjunct Saturn.
Mercury, the ancient god of thought and communication, moves into a feeling and emotional sign. This bodes well for the intuitive and sensitive types. But those that value crisp and sharp intellectual awareness will be literally “all at sea”.
Mars conjunct Saturn is a metaphor for the warrior god challenging the original King of the gods. The result is a tense and awkward time, but on the other hand we can find the strength to endure and the power to resist.
Sunday 13th July
Venus moves into Leo
Ah, fun and the games we can have as gentle Venus wants to romp like a playful lion. This makes social engagements feel twice as good, and we want to put on some “bling” and have some light-hearted joy. The next few weeks are a perfect time to have a party.
Friday 18th July
The Full Moon is in Capricorn
Our sense of duty predominates over our heart and a sober and responsible attitude can flourish. Many of our thoughts will turn to thinking about our career and how we feel about where we are currently in achieving our life’s purpose.
Tuesday 22nd July
The Sun enters Leo
It’s a time of sparkle and flamboyance. So any wonder those born in the time of Leo are renowned as playful and outgoing. They are not necessarily extraverts, but they do bring a particular sense of warmth and excitement to the rest of us.
Saturday 26th July
Mercury enters Leo
Communication and interactions have now moved into the playful Lion sign. Notice everybody talking very loudly? There is a wealth of talking about plans, and a dearth of actual planning.
Friday 1st August
New Moon is in Leo with a Solar Eclipse (not seen here)
With all these planets in Leo, now the Moon enters the scene and it promises a boost of confidence which is a help to those who want to impress partners, seek romance, and attract the attention of the bosses. A good time to show yourself in the best light. Just don’t forget to deliver on the promise.
Wednesday 6th August
Venus enters Virgo
A high moral tone is set as Venus moves into Virgo. We can so easily be displeased with the messiness and tawdriness of the humdrum. Thus we may suddenly be aware of all those dust bunnies, or see our beloved do something unbecoming or even heaven-forbid – pass wind; and be outraged!
Sunday 10th August
Mercury enters Virgo
Mercury come to its home in Virgo and thrives on a thirst for knowledge in academic, analytical and medical matters. If we have to write an essay, or present a proposal or an idea, now is the time as the attention to detail will help the words flow with grace.
Sunday 17th August
Full Moon is in Aquarius with a Lunar Eclipse (not seen here)
This is a social and outgoing Full Moon and is a time we want to be independent and feel unfettered by the small concerns of life. There is also a collective gathering of energy for humanitarian causes and issues to do with the wider community. At this time it is easier to think outside your known world and be ready to help others nationally and globally.
Tuesday 19th August
Mars enters Libra
This theoretically should be an optimum time for teamwork. The energy is there, but Mars is a planet that likes to do his own thing. So cooperation will only work if there is an outcome that every single person involved agrees upon. So if you and your beloved are not on the same wavelength then your “team/family” will notice some hassles.
Saturday 23rd August
Sun enters Virgo
Did the ancients notice the attention to detail and the orderliness of people born at this time and create a picture of a precise virgin in the sky to celebrate this energy? No; I believe that they created a philosophy of life that joined the concepts of Earth, Mutability and Femininity which later astrologers grouped into the sign of Virgo as a teaching exercise. As far history becomes myth, so the virgin became the sign of Virgo.
Friday 29th August
Mercury enters Libra
If you need tact and diplomacy, now is the time you turn to the stars and reach for this skill. It’s a perfect time to hone the art of perceiving the other person point of view, and then knowing what to say to help them understand yours. Groups of people will work well together and social occasions will be a buzz of conversation and friendly debate.
Sunday 31st August
New Moon in Virgo and Venus enters Libra
The Virgo New Moon suggests a time we can easily apply ourselves to our bodies, and start health and exercise routines. The head is ruling the heart so we can take diligence and practical care with our daily routine and apply ourselves to the details of life.
Venus moving into it home sign of Libra and as the old song says, “Peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars”. The only danger is procrastinating about what to do. Libra is an indecisive sign and Venus, the goddess of love, will have so much to choose from she cannot make up her mind. Social and work meetings will be harmonious and any conflict can be easily resolved.

Aries
In July there is a situation at your work place or in your daily routine that requires attention as it activates your sense of responsibility. This is also a time to connect to other people as your zone of Fun is activated. Social networks and relationships will develop, so let your hair down and enjoy the resultant increase in social life.
Taurus
Around mid July there is improvement around the home as Venus enters your family zone and you want to spend time around the house. At the same time there could be coolness or disharmony with the young people in your life, or delays in your own social activities. This quickly settles down and a quiet and serious mood continues through August.
Gemini
Your feeling of being on track evaporates in Mid July and there could be disruptions around your home, either with family members or with physical changes. So rearrange some furniture and undertake some long needed repairs to disperse any negative energy. Relief comes in early August as you will need to take a lot of short trips; satisfying your restless nature.
Cancer
This is a season of new beginnings and deepening self respect with a New Moon and Venus in your sign. A new love could emerge or existing love deepen. Be careful with hasty words in Mid July. Through August you may find that you want new possessions and there is a focus on how much (or not) money you have.
Leo
Lucky you; there is a number of planets in Leo, including Venus, so fun, love and enjoyment are on offer. But watch your spending. In August you have a New Moon with a Solar Eclipse, so you will feel the need to commit yourself to a new direction, or a person, but you will also need to release the old.
Virgo
July has Mars and Saturn together in your sign so there will be tensions and uneasiness. But this energy can also be used to energetically overcome obstacles as stamina and perseverance is increased. As this tension resolves through August you will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And it’s the sunlight coming; not a train.
Libra
This season is a time of dreaming of new goals and possibilities, perhaps thinking of a move or a new career. Friends may be the ones that activate you or encourage you to plan big. There will be a few worries in early July but these just mean you thinking of how your ideas could impact on those around you.
Scorpio
It’s lucky that perseverance is one of your traits, as you will need it this season. Your work can get very busy and so it seems life just plods along. There may even be delays, but these fade by August. Bide your time in the big things and instead focus your energy on the little things that you can manage.
Sagittarius
The union of Mars and Saturn in your work zone suggest that friction and tension will be felt with authority figures around you. You can feel that they are challenging you, but are you really challenging them? It could also manifest as a difficult situation that fellow workers are involved in. It is a time to ask yourself why you feel trapped.
Capricorn
You have a Full Moon shining brightly upon you this season with lots of social connections and fun to be had. Delightful new people could come into your life. There may be disruptions to your travel plans and you will need to knuckle down to finish any studies. But these issues are well and truly sorted by later in August.
Aquarius
This season there is a need to take responsibility for what you know and what you would prefer remains hidden. It may be information that you alone are aware of. The Aquarius Full Moon in August could bring this out into the open. The connection to Venus and Jupiter means the outcome is good and relationships develop and existing ones deepen.
Pisces
It seems you need the “colour” of your life to brighten. I suggest you liven up your environment or your social life. Through August you may become aware of your health and the need to make adjustment to your diet or exercise habits. If arguments develop with your partner or friends use the energy in a positive manner and become active together.

Gardening by the Moon
Gardening by the Moon involves uses the Moons phases to find the right time to plant and maintain your garden. It increases the health of plants and the yield of crops. But sometimes it’s difficult to understand the reasons why we are supposed to do certain jobs at certain times. To make it simple, I will share with you my method of understanding Moon gardening that is easy to remember, and easy to use.
First I will tell you two simple rules – then the two simple exceptions to the rules!
Rule 1. Make use of the Moon Phase. When the moon is getting bigger, known as waxing, the life force or energy is going into a growing phase. So its time to plant seedlings, apply foliage fertilisers, and any activity where you want growth, foliage and general expansion.
When the moon is getting smaller, known as waning, the life force or energy is going into the roots. Now its time to apply organic manure, plant your roots crops, prune to retard growth, kill weeds and pests, cultivate, and strike plants that need a period of dormancy before they grow. But during the exact New and Full Moons it is best to avoid any activity.
Rule 2. Find out the Moon Sign. The Moon moves through the zodiac and is in each sign for about 2 or 3 days. Some signs are fertile and some are barren. Planting should be done in fertile signs and maintenance performed in barren signs. If the moon is in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), or Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), it is considered to be fertile. If it is in Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) or Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) then its barren. But avoid the actual time of the New and Full Moons.
To remember this; just think literally – real earth and water are the ideal place to grow things so they must represent fertile signs. And fire is hot and burns, and air blows the dust around, so they must represent barren signs. But….see exceptions 1 and 2!
Exception 1. Libra is an air sign and so should be barren, but it is really fertile. Why; because Libra is concerned with balance and harmony, and plants want to grow and bloom and be beautiful, just like the essential qualities of Librans.
Exception 2. Virgo is an earth sign and should be fertile, but is actually barren. Why; because Virgo is symbolically the untouched ideal, and very fussy, so it’s not a good time to plant things. These plants will be selective and hard to please. They find everything just too cold, too hot, too dry, too wet, too….do you get the idea?
So for planting, select the waxing phase of the Moon and find the times the Moon is in fertile signs. And for garden maintenance or weeding, select the waning phase and the barren signs. But take care to avoid the peak New and Full Moons for any activity.
Moon gardening can become a great deal more detailed in the times to plant leafy, root or fruiting crops, but to start your life of Gardening by the Moon, begin with this simple technique; and success will be yours.
